The Light Between Oceans: My Review

The Light Between Oceans

“As grief, pain and anguish unfold, ‘The Light Between Oceans’ provides an intimate and emotional insight into lives troubled by loss. After a slightly slow start, the scenes become increasingly captivating as the film hinges on developing relationships and divided loyalties. It is impossible not to feel for a couple who, during such a dark time in their lives, are saved by the love and playfulness of a young girl. The picture of a perfect family is painted alongside the suffering of a broken one causing the morality of their choices to become increasingly blurred. Emotional topics are covered with a sensitivity which creates a film that is both heart-warming and heart-wrenching. A beautiful film to watch.”

I can see why many viewers have reservations about this film. But for me, in cinematic terms, this is an epic film; visually beautiful and morally tense. Sure, its also melodramatic, but thats the period genre for you.
